Scott County and Three Unions Extend Contracts

Scott County and some of its union workers have agreed to extend their contracts. Instead of expiring next June (2022), the contracts with three bargaining units will not expire until June, 2023.

Following ratification by workers, the board of supervisors approved the one-year extensions on Friday.

County officials cited economic uncertainty due to the pandemic and inflation, for postponing new negotiations until next year.

The agreements cover nearly 200 employees who work as correctional officers, in the secondary roads department, and clerical and facilities workers. The one-year extensions include a three per cent wage hike beginning next July, but no other changes in their contracts.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
