A world-renowned musician wants to help build an African American Museum in the Quad Cities. Iowa native Simon Estes has performed in operas and musicals around the world. He says the proposed museum is important project because African American history is not always covered in schools.
On Friday, he met with members of the board of the Quad Cities Multicultural Museum and says plans are underway to schedule a benefit concert that will raise money for the museum.
Estes believes educating young people about history encourages them to make the most of their opportunities.
Estes is the grandson of a slave, but despite his humble beginnings, has performed for popes and presidents around the world. He says music, education, and culture open doors and unite people of all races. No date has been set for the benefit concert.
