QC Salvation Army Reaches Goal

Given a little extra time, the Quad Cities has come through for the Salvation Army. Today it announced the annual Red Kettle Campaign reached its goal, and even went a little beyond.

The campaign started in November with a goal of $750,000, but at the end of December, when the campaign usually ends, it was still well short. So the Salvation Army extended its fund-raising efforts through the end of January - and collected donations totalling $752,000.

Salvation Army officials say two special efforts contributed to the success of the Red Kettle Campaign - a gift from Hiland Toyota that was matched by the Toyota Dealer Match Program, and Von Maur matched all the donations dropped in the red kettles at the malls on December 22nd.

Each year, this campaign pays for about 60 per cent of the local chapter's annual budget.
