A candidate for Congress in northwestern Illinois has dropped out of the race. Today Eric Reyes of Rock Island announced he's no longer running for the republican nomination in the 17th District.
The district is now represented by first term democrat Cheri Bustos of East Moline, and Reyes' likely opponent in the March primary would have been former congressman Bobby Schilling from Colona.
In his announcement, Reyes says, quote, "I have chosen to withdraw my candidacy and focus on advancing the principles of freedom, liberty, and limited Constitutional government by other means." His petitions to get on the GOP primary ballot were being challenged, and the Illinois State Board of Elections was supposed to make a decision next week.
He also ran for Congress as an independent in 20-12.
