Longfellow School Award

Some young students in Rock Island belong to a select group. Today Longfellow School held an assembly to honor the children for their performance on last year's Illinois Standards Achievement Test. Superintendent Mike Oberhaus says the Longfellow students improved their math and reading scores by nearly 10 per cent over the previous year.

Longfellow is one of just 81 schools across Illinois to receive an Academic Improvement Award from the state board of education.

But the students won't have long to rest on their laurels - they'll take this year's two-day, state test next week. Principal Dave Knuckey urged them to gets lots of sleep this weekend, eat a good breakfast on test days, and to be on time.
