In a release, the company said it filed a rate increase request this week with the Iowa Utilities Board. The water utility said the new rates reflect over $157-million in water and wastewater improvements.
If the new rates are approved, the average residential customer using 4,000 gallons a month would see $22 added to their bill. The IUB will likely make its decision next year.
In the meantime, Iowa American Water says it will enact an interim rate increase, starting this month.
