Last year, the organization partnered with Vision to Learn, another nonprofit, to give local students eye exams and glasses for free.
In a release, United Way said it's given 1,900 eye exams and over 1,000 pairs of glasses to children since then.
The nonprofit said it hopes that by alleviating vision problems in grade school, the initiative will help young students learn how to read earlier.
The organization celebrated the milestone on Wednesday at Fillmore Elementary School in Davenport.
