COVID-19: Where Younger Children Can Get Vaccinated

Options are becoming available for 5-to-11-year-olds to get free, COVID-19 vaccinations. (Updated: see below.)

Just this afternoon, the Rock Island County Health Department announced it will start giving younger kids the Pfizer vaccine on Friday and Monday from 8 am until 4 pm by appointment only at its office in Rock Island (2112 25th Avenue).

Beginning Thursday at 10 am, parents may start making appointments for their children through the Rock Island County Health Department's Facebook page.

The department will also hold a younger kids vaccine clinic on Saturday morning, November 20th, with signups starting on November 18th.

Genesis Health System says it'll take a few days to receive pediatric doses of the Pfizer vaccine. Patients may call for appointments after Genesis announces the doses have arrived. They'll be given at the Genesis Vaccine Clinics located on West Lombard in Davenport and the Moline HealthPlex.

Registration links and updates will be posted on the health system's Facebook or Instagram.

HyVee says "select pharmacies" have started to give free, COVID-19 vaccines to kids 5 to 11 years old by appointment only. The supply is limited, and more appointments times will be added as more doses arrive. The link is HERE. A check of the website Wednesday morning showed no local appointments available yet.

The Dubuque County Health Department has announced several, walk-in vaccination clinics for younger children. The first is on Friday from noon until 4:30 pm at the Dubuque Visiting Nurses Association. Others will be held at the same location on Monday from 4 to 7 pm, Thursday, November 11th from 3 to 6 pm, and Friday, November 12th from 8 am until 4:30 pm.

The pediatric, Pfizer vaccine requires two doses administered at least 21 days apart.

The CDC's https://www.vaccines.gov also did not yet include a search option to find the pediatric vaccine.

Nov. 4th, 2021 update

Some CVS pharmacies will begin offering the pediatric Pfizer vaccine to 5-to-11-year-old children starting on Sunday. The company says it'll be available at nearly 1,700 CVS pharmacies in the US. Parents may schedule appointments online.
