A former player and student assistant at Augustana College will be the next head men's basketball coach. Steve Schafer will take over from Grey Giovanine who retired last month.
Schafer played for the Vikings for three years, then due to injuries, worked as a student assistant under Giovanine during his senior year, graduating from Augustana in 2001.
Most recently he spent five years as head men's basketball coach and director of athletics at Benedictine-Mesa University in Mesa, Arizona. And the job included starting the athletic program - taking it from eight club sports when he started to 13 inter-collegiate varsity sports today.
