The six include three women, one each in their 50's, 60's, and 70's. Two of them were already hospitalized while the third died at home. This also includes two men in their 70's and one in his 40's. Two were hospitalized and one died in a long term care facility.
The total number of deaths in Rock Island County is now 350 since the pandemic began early last year.
Janet Hill from the Health Department says, "Throughout the waves of this pandemic, we have seen a pattern of surging cases followed a few weeks later by rising deaths. Most people who die from this virus have not been vaccinated. Our three widely available vaccines are highly protective against serious illness and death.”
The health department also reports 72 new cases of COVID-19 since Monday, including ten women in their 30's and seven boys younger than 13. Currently, 39 patients are hospitalized in the county with the virus. The average age of newly infected patients is 37.
