WIU Cancels Classes

Following the lead of several other public universities in the state, Western Illinois University will cancel all classes next week - March 16th through the 20th.

In addition, classes will resume the following week but only in what the university calls "an alternative format," and continue in that format until at least April 3rd.

Thursday Western announced residence halls will re-open this weekend following spring break, and students returning to campus must check in when they arrive. Dining services will be available.

Faculty and staff are expected to resume their normal work schedules next week, even though classes have been canceled.

Campus events involving more than 50 people, are canceled, through April 3rd. International travel and summer abroad trips have also been canceled.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
