A year and-a-half after construction began, the I-H Mississippi Valley Credit Union has moved into its new headquarters in Moline.

President and CEO Brian Laufenberg says employees were spread out among five different, rented locations.

"It basically came to the point where we needed to look to the future and really do an expansion that would meet out needs for a 30 to 40 year period of time and make that investment at this point."

Initially, 250 of the credit union's nearly 400 employees will work in the new building on River Drive in Moline.

Laufenberg says IHMVCU was formed in the mid-1980's by a combination of three credit unions - the Farmall, International Harvester, and Mississippi Valley Chapter credit unions. And it now has 130,000 members and 1.4 billion dollars in assets.

The new headquarters cost 24 to 25 million dollars.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
