Wired and Woven: The Fiber Art of Louise Pappageorge

Ways To Subscribe

Welcome to a new episode of Talking Art, presented by Quad City Bank & Trust.
Host Ben Gougeon talks with fiber artist Louise Pappageorge, whose work is on display at the Quad City Arts Rock Island Gallery from June 27 through August 8.

Louise shares how her practice grew from sewing and knitting into fiber sculpture. While studying at the Art Institute of Chicago, she moved away from painting, choosing fiber as a medium that aligned better with her values and materials she could work with safely.

In this conversation, Louise walks us through her process—how she began working with wire and lace, and how she builds sculptural forms that bridge craft and fine art. She also reflects on how textile work connects to identity and the long history of feminine expression through handmade objects.

From metallic finishes to traditional techniques used in unexpected ways, Louise’s work asks questions about form, function, and what art can be.

Hear more about her creative path and the exhibit now on view at Quad City Arts. Visit Louise Pappageorge’s website for more about her work. Listen now to Talking Art.
