41 years ago, River Action hosted the first annual “Ride the River” Father’s Day bike ride to connect people with the Mississippi riverfront and with each other.
This year, celebrate Father’s Day by joining River Action for Ride the Island, an exciting twist on this Quad Cities’ bike-ride tradition. Cruise the trails of Rock Island Arsenal by bike while exploring its rich history, connecting with others, and celebrating dads. Ride the Island is an opportunity to thoroughly tour Arsenal Island’s history like never before, as the Arsenal Museum and historic buildings such as Colonel Davenport’s House, Quarters One, and the Clock Tower Building will all be staffed and open for visiting. Along your ride, stop at Memorial Park to enjoy Father’s Day festivities, including live music, hot food off the grill, and outdoor games for all ages.
If you’ll be dusting off your bike for the first time in a while, River Action will have bike maintenance stands ready and waiting to help get you rolling for the ride. Don’t have a pass to get on the Arsenal? No worries. Passes are not required for registered Ride the Island participants. If over 18, just be sure to bring a valid Driver’s License or state issued I.D.
Whether you’re a bike enthusiast, a history buff, or simply looking for a fun way to celebrate dad on Father’s Day, Ride the Island has a little bit of something for everyone. Register today by going to riveraction.org/rti or call River Action at (563) 322-2969.
