"The Living Last Supper: Is It I?" cast preparing for their opening weekend

This weekend, Mt. Zion Baptist Church and Area Sister Churches will perform a dramatization of The Last Supper.

“The Living Last Supper: Is It I?” will take place from November 1 to 3, beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 3 p.m. on Sunday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in East Moline.

Director Sister Diana Anita Allen said production of the play first started in 2019 but was put on hold due to the pandemic. She said some of the original cast members remain the same, but some are new.

Allen said the cast age range spans over three generations, with the oldest cast member, Reverend David McAdams, being 94. McAdams was a part of the original cast and said the production is something he will never forget.

“Bring all these elements together for one purpose. That purpose being we love the Lord, let’s get closer to Him,” McAdams said. “Find out who He is, what we can be in His life, and certainly what He can be in our lives. It’s been a wonderful, wonderful opportunity, really.”

Allen said she hopes the audience will take away God’s message and be encouraged to join in on services. At the end of each show, she said the church will hold communion.

“There are a lot of fall revivals, and when you think about revivals, you think about some type of revival of spirit,” Allen said. “And so, hopefully, this production will be a revival of spirit for the people who come.”

Allen said admission is free, but the church will accept any “free-will offerings."

** Correction: Mt. Zion Baptist Church is located in East Moline.
