Now that the holidays are over, lunch ladies and other Davenport school employees have resumed handing out free meals to local children.

Connie Dobbels, Supervisor of Food and Nutrition Services, says every Tuesday, employees distribute meals to kids from one- to 18-years-old.
In the fall, the district was handing out 500 meal kits per week. That increased to 1,000 after the district switched to all online learning.
Each child or teen receives seven breakfasts and seven lunches. No registration is required.
And because it's funded by the USDA, even children from Illinois may pick up a week's worth of meals, no questions asked. She says the program "is not just for families in financial need. Never think that you are taking away food from anyone in need."

Every Tuesday while classes are in session, the Davenport school district will distribute meals from 10:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. at its drive-through operation at the Davenport Learning Center, 1002 West Kimberly Road.
(The school district also provides meals each weekday at certain schools for students who attend Davenport schools but are still learning 100% online. It's a different program. The Food Nutrition Services phone number is 563.336.7430, and its website is HERE.)
