Wilson-Neuleib Convicted

A Moline teenager faces a long term in prison after being found guilty of first degree murder. After deliberating for a couple of hours  Monday afternoon, a jury in Rock Island convicted 18 year old Lamaree Wilson-Neuleib.

Prosecutors say Wilson-Neuleib fired shots at two young men sitting in a car in Moline on May 20th, 2015. 18 year old Zachary Phillips was killed and 21 year old Erik Roberson was seriously wounded.
He was also convicted of aggravated battery with a firearm, and sentencing will be held late next month.

The trial began last Tuesday.

A year ago, Wilson-Neuleib pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 50 years in prison. But then last spring a judge allowed him to withdraw his plea, and vacated the sentence. She ruled he was not told that 25 years would be added to his sentence because a firearm was involved.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
