Arsenal Island Battalion Comes Home

After nine months of service overseas, members of a unit based on Arsenal Island came home to the Quad Cities. Last week, the 920th Contracting Battalion flew into the Quad City Airport from Kuwait and the Middle East, and was greeted by their families, Patriot Guard Riders, and the USO.

The battalion is one of several that oversees large-scale military contracts worth billions of dollars.

Lieutenant Colonel Ryan Eckmeier, the battalion's commander, says even though his unit works behind the scenes, their work is still very challenging.

Eckmeier has served in the Army since 1986 and has been deployed several times before. He says coming home is always gratifying.

It's been 9 months since Eckmeier has seen his family face-to-face.

For now, the 920th will continue overseeing Army contracts from its base on Arsenal Island.

I am currently a senior at Augustana College, majoring in Multimedia Journalism and Mass Communication with a minor in Creative Writing. I serve as the General Manager for WAUG.fm, Augustana's online student radio station and have worked as an intern and DJ at Studstill Media Group. I report on local news for WVIK and am honored and excited to be a part of the news team. I hope to pursue a career in radio broadcasting and an eventual master's degree in English or Communications.
