Construction Begins on Two Rivers YMCA Expansion

A local YMCA is ahead of schedule for a renovation to better serve its growing and changing members. Today, the Two Rivers YMCA in Moline broke ground on a $3.4 million renovation and expansion.

Chief Volunteer Officer, Jennifer Rowe, says the YMCA on 53rd Street was originally built 45 years ago to serve 10,000 people. Today, over 12,000 people use the facility, and up to 15,000 will be able to after the expansion.
She says the YMCA hired a diversity task force to assess the needs of its new members, and then developed plans for an expanded lobby and welcome center. The expansion also includes a two-story Children's Adventure Center, a pre-school classroom, and senior exercise areas.

Rowe says the Two Rivers YMCA hoped to raise $3 million by the end of the year. But since it started a capital campaign in December, the YMCA has already raised $3.6 million.

And, construction should be completed by next summer.
