Rock Island Man Charged With Davenport Murder

Davenport Police Department

A Rock Island man is charged with murder for a fatal shooting in Davenport two weeks ago. On Monday, 18 year old Juwan Johnson was arrested for the death of 19 year old Lewis Woodson of Quincy. On September 2nd, Woodson was shot in a convenience store parking lot in the 31-hundred block of Brady Street.

Davenport police chief Paul Sikorski announced the arrest during a news conference today. It was his second news conference in two days, designed to show his department is fighting an outbreak of gun violence - cases of "shots fired" so far this year have now surpassed all of last year.
He also hopes city residents will continue to help police, "if they see something, say something."

In addition to first degree murder, Juwan Johnson is charged with intimidation with a dangerous weapon. He's being held without bond, awaiting extradition from Rock Island to Davenport.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
