QC Manufacturing Innovation Hub Launches

Quad Cities Manufacturing Innovation Hub and Quad Cities Chamber

Local manufacturers now have another resource to stay competitive and relevant. Today, the Quad Cities Chamber launched the Quad Cities Manufacturing Innovation Hub.
Executive Director, Curt Burnett, says the hub helps small and medium-sized manufacturers assess problems and develop a plan to improve business. Then, it connects manufacturers with local resources.
Burnett says most of the 350 manufacturers in the Quad Cities region are made up of 100 people or less. And, it's hard for them to keep up with emerging technologies.

He doesn't want small manufacturers to suffer in the "technology tsunami."

He says the hub will also act as a "manufacturing matchmaker," to help companies reach new customers. It'll release a catalog for regional manufacturers, to market nationally and internationally. And, Burnett hopes it'll spark events for businesses to meet and connect.

The idea for a manufacturing hub has been in the works for several years. Then two years ago, a 163,000 dollar federal grant, matched by local funds, paid to develop a detailed operating plan.

Burnett says the Quad Cities Manufacturing Innovation Hub hopes to help 50 businesses by next year.
