Some top national democrats will help raise money for local democrats this weekend. The Scott County Democratic Party will hold a picnic and fund-raiser Sunday in Scott County Park, near Eldridge.

Scheduled to attend is presidential candidate Bernie Sanders and Michigan US Senator Debbie Stabenow  who's supporting Hillary Clinton for president.
The picnic on Sunday begins at 1 pm, at the Whispering Pines shelter.

Stabenow is also scheduled to campaign for Clinton in Muscatine on Sunday at the Strawberry Farm Bed and Breakfast - at 11:30 am she'll talk about rural issues and college affordability, then at 12:45 the senator will kick off a "Hillary for Iowa Canvass."

Following the meet and greet with local democrats in Scott County Park, Sanders will hold a town hall meeting in Dubuque at 6 pm, in the Athletic and Wellness Center at Loras College.

*This story has been edited to say Sanders will speak at the Athletic and Wellness Center at Loras College in Dubuque. A spokesman just announced the change to a larger venue.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
