A contractor has completed a big part of the I-74 bridge project.
George Ryan, Corridor Manager, says last week, Lunda Construction poured the final batch of concrete for all the piers located in the river (see photo above).

The company is now preparing to install steel beams on the east-bound piers along with the floor system for the concrete deck.
Lunda employees also continue to work on cranes, high above the Mississippi River, securing a strut between the two arches near the Illinois side of the river, just like the strut installed recently between the arch pieces near the Iowa side.

It's a key part of the process that requires precision since the pieces are very close to each other.
Other contractors continue to build the new I-74 highway on land. In downtown Moline, Ryan says Kraemer North America is working between the river and 7th Avenue, while Walsh is working from 7th Avenue to the Avenue of the Cities.
And in Bettendorf, Civil Constructors and McCarthy Improvement continue to work on ramps and new lanes from the bridge north to Middle Road.
It's a $1.2 billion project that began in July, 2017, two-and-a-half-years ago. More information is available on the project website HERE.
