Davenport Updates Snow Plan

Davenport residents may notice an important change in how their streets are plowed this winter. The city's official snow plan has been revised so crews can get to residential streets faster.

Streets Maintenance Engineer, Eric Longlett, says in the past city crews have focused on snow routes and other main streets, at the expense of neighborhoods. But that will change this winter, thanks to greater use of pickups and other small trucks.
The city is divided into zones and Longlett says their boundaries have been revised so his crews can do a better job faster, especially on residential streets.

This way residents only have to clear their driveways and sidewalks once.

Fifty to 60 vehicles will be available to plow snow this winter in Davenport, including big and small trucks, motor graders, and end-loaders.

And so far he's seen no dependable forecast on how much snow we might receive this winter.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
