Leak Closes Bettendorf Library

City of Bettendorf
water damage on the main floor

The Bettendorf Library will be closed for at least three months. That's the update from the city as a result of significant water damage cause by a broken pipe early Friday.

The Library was in the process of updating a second floor bathroom, and the broken pipe damaged the second floor and a section of the newly remodeled first floor. The estimated cost of the damage and to rebuild is approximately $1 million.
Bettendorf is now looking for a temporary location for some of the Library’s services. Administrative staff is temporarily located at the Family Museum.
Patrons should hold onto their materials until further notice. And they have privileges at the other Iowa RiverShare Libraries, which include Davenport, LeClaire, Musser, Clinton, and three Eastern Iowa Community Colleges.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
