EM Starts Search for City Administrator

East Moline

East Moline will bring in some outside help to find a new city administrator. This week, despite receiving a lot of applications, the city council decided to start over and hire a professional search firm.

Mayor John Thodos says 19 people applied for the job.
He and aldermen decided to hire a Chicago firm, Voorhees Associates - the same firm that's worked with East Moline before, and other local governments in this area.

Thodos says a key qualification for the new city administrator is he or she must "understand Illinois."

We want someone who's familiar with Illinois, and the challenges of working in the state.

And after working with three city administrators already, the mayor hopes the next one hired will stay long enough to retire from the job.

The previous city administrator, Cole O'Donnell,  worked for East Moline for four years, and resigned in December to take a similar position in Dixon, Illinois.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
