A new, Quad Cities company will try to bring new business to a busy corner in Moline. Tomorrow, the city council will be asked to formalize an agreement with "Revive Community Development" for a project where the John Deere Collectors Center used to be. Last week, aldermen gave preliminary approval to giving Revive a one-year option to buy the property.
President Omar Bradley says the city wants Revive to build a parking ramp and multi-family apartments at the site located on the corner of 17th Street and 3rd Avenue.
Two years ago, the Moline Hotel Group planned to buy the collectors center which closed seven years ago. That deal fell through, and then the city had the old building torn down.
Early last summer, Bradley and other local investors formed Revive Community Development to restore and develop historic properties.
And he hopes the Illinois General Assembly will "come around" eventually and pass an historic preservation tax credit program similar to the one in Iowa. Currently, the Illinois program excludes all municipalities except Aurora, East St. Louis, Elgin, Peoria, and Rockford.
