Residents and businesses in west Rock Island should be on the alert in the coming weeks. The sewer project along 6th Avenue will require some "blasting."
The city's public works department says explosives will be needed to help the contractor excavate large sections of the underlying bedrock.
Prior to blasting, nearby property owners will be notified, special signs will be put up, traffic will be detoured, and a special horn will sound. Nearby buildings will be checked to make sure they have not been damaged.
The new sewer line is being installed along 6th Avenue, from 6th to 24th streets.
