The State of Illinois plans to invest $5 million in park projects in Henry County. This week, it announced $2.5 million awards to the Geneseo and Colona park districts.
The Geneseo Park District will use the money to build an outdoor aquatic center to replace its 61-year-old pool. The new center will have a six-lane pool, slides, and a bathhouse, which costs a total of $6.5 million.
The governor's office says the grant to Colona would help pay for a $4.5 million fitness center with a pool, track, and multi-purpose rooms.
However, the Colona Park District may not exist much longer. Next week, Colona residents will vote on a proposal to dissolve the park district.
