Stable Budget for BHC

Next year's budget for Black Hawk College will look very much like this year's. Monday night, the board of trustees held a public hearing, with final approval expected in June, for the fiscal year beginning July lst.

Chief Financial Officer Steve Frommelt says tuition will stay at the same level for the third year, the tax levy will be the same as this year, and he's planning on no big change in money from the state.

"We're budgeting a similar level from Fiscal 19 - our current year - with no growth. State support is just under 18 per cent of our operating budget."

He says this year's tax levy, that'll stay the same next year, works out to about 189 dollars in property taxes per year for the owner of a 100,000 dollar home.

The Black Hawk College district includes all or parts of 9 counties.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
