New Dean at Augustana

WVIK Quad Cities NPR

"Every day is unique and interesting." That's according to Dr. Wes Brooks who started last month as Vice President and Dean of Student Life at Augustana College.

He says his job is to make the student experience the best it can possibly be. Or, if it happens outside of the classroom, Brooks is probably involved.

His previous job was a similar position at Iowa Wesleyan University.

"I would say that Augustana is a much larger place, and there's more work to be done to create and solidify the dynamic student experience. So more atheletic teams, more residential students, more clubs and organizations, and more greek chapters."

Brooks originally wanted to teach high school history, but changed his mind while attending Grand View University.

"My path forward shifted a little bit, late in my college career. I realized that I wanted to get into higher education, specifically on the student affairs side, and it's lead me to today."

Dr. Brooks replaces Evelyn Campbell, who served as Vice President and Dean of Students for 27 years and retired during the summer.

His former jobs include director of Residential Life at Wartburg College and student leadership co-ordinator at Grand View University.

I'm currently a Senior at Augustana College, working on majors in Multimedia Journalism and Mass Communication and Communication Studies. In addition to interning at the station, I also work for the Augustana Observer, the college's official student newspaper, as a writer for the Arts and Entertainment section.
