Lobbying for a New School Funding Formula

Davenport School District
From last year's lobby trip, Davenport students wearing their "I'm Worth Less" t-shirts. Posing with State Senator Crhis Brase.

Students, teachers, administrators, parents, and members of the Davenport school board will travel to Des Moines on Monday for their annual lobby day. But this year, they have a very specific goal in mind - convince the powers-that-be to fix the school funding formula.

Recently the board gave its support to Superintendent Art Tate who wants to spend more next year than the formula allows - despite having million of dollars in reserve funds, it's forced to spend much less per student than nearby districts.

Board president Ralph Johanson.
As they did last year, students from Davenport will wear t-shirts saying "I'm Worth Less" when they meet with the governor and legislators.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
