Davenport elementary students had a merry time today packing food baskets on Monday, so some of their classmates and families will have a happy Christmas.
Kamie Montoya, the principal at Jefferson school, says for several years businesses, retired teachers, and others have been working to provide Christmas dinner for the families who need the most help.
Fourth and fifth grade students from two clubs packed the food into boxes and grocery bags. Montoya says Class Act for girls has about 28 members this year. The club for boys is called, the Young Men's Club.
Montoya hopes the businesses, retired teachers, and other donors will help the school meet next year's goal of providing 270 Christmas food baskets. That's the number of families represented by the 480 students who attend Jefferson Elementary in Davenport. All of the students qualify for free or reduced price lunch.
