BHS Music Department Seeks Grammy Award

Provided by Bettendorf High School

The world's most famous musicians aren't the only ones waiting to find out if they'll receive a Grammy Award. This year, Bettendorf High School's Music Department is in the running to be a National Grammy Signature School.

Director of Instrumental Programs, Mike Dynes, says BHS is one of 119 schools across the country chosen as a semi-finalist in the competition. Each year, the Grammy Foundation honors public high schools for their innovative music education.
Dynes says Bettendorf High School is one of only two Iowa schools to make it to the semi-finals. The winning school receives an actual Grammy award and a monetary grant for its music program.

He says the students are excited to receive national recognition.

Last fall, Dynes applied for the honor by submitting recordings and information about demographics and participation.

The Bettendorf High School Music Department will find out if it's been chosen as a Grammy Signature Finalist School in March.
