Hoping to save money at a time of rising costs and uncertain state funding, Black Hawk College has decided to close the sports program at its east campus in Galva. The change goes into effect next spring, and affects women's volleyball, plus men's and women's basketball teams.
President Bettie Truitt says this will save the college about 150,000 dollars per year. In her words, Black Hawk will be able to "focus resources more efficiently during challenging budget times."
East campus athletes with tuition waivers will be honored through the 2016-2017 school year.
The main campus in Moline fields teams in basketball, volleyball, baseball, softball, and men's golf.
