Wood Intermediate Finishes Renovations

A school in Davenport now has an outdoor classroom and solar panels. Today, Wood Intermediate held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the completion of the 7.5 million dollar project.

Other additions to the school include a new gym, fitness center, cafeteria extension, and geo-thermal system. But 7th grader Meredith Sloat is most excited about the updated orchestra and band room.

Wood Intermediate hasn't really been updated since it was built in 1985, and Principal Sheri Simpson-Schultz says with 750 kids at the school, it needed updates.

She says the school can now offer elective P.E. classes with the new gym, and the outdoor classroom gives students a unique learning experience.

Wood Intermediate is now the 14th school in the Davenport School District to install a geo-thermal system. It's expected to save between 30,000 and 50,000 dollars per year in heating and cooling costs.
