Smokestack Demolition Begins at Central High School

WVIK Staff

Work has begun to demolish the smokestack at Central High School in Davenport. This morning a contractor started the project that could take up to two weeks to complete.

Built in 1930, it's 160 feet tall.
The demolition is part of the auditorium and swimming pool renovations and construction that started earlier this summer.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
