Whiteside Announces Retirement

Augustana College

A long-time coach at Augustana College is going to retire this spring. Fred Whiteside made the announcement today.

He graduated from Augustana in 1974, and coached and taught at Westmer High School for one year before returning to his alma mater as an assistant coach.
When he retires this spring Whiteside will have served as head coach of the women's cross country team for 33 years, and head coach of women's track for 28 years.
He's also worked as a physical education teacher, and in several administrative jobs, including director of off-campus housing, director of janitorial servides, and building director for the Carver PE Center.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
