The research park at Iowa State University in Ames has a new tenant. Deere and Company has opened what it calls a "strategic technology office."

The goal is to develop products and solutions for two divisions - Agriculture and Turf, and Construction and Forestry.

Research Park director, Steve Carter, says Deere has a long history of working with Iowa State - its faculty, students, and facilities such as the virtual reality lab. And he sees the new office as building on its past success.

"What we know now is they will establish a presences here and it is our hope that through success they will grow that presence."

Carter says the ISU Research Park currently hosts 60 companies.

Deere says a key focus for its new office will be "precision agriculture technology."

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
