Dubuque-Based Theisen's Opens First Quad Cities Location

It didn't take long for a new business to claim the former Kmart building on Brady Street in Davenport. Kmart closed the store last winter, and in February, Theisen's Home-Farm-and-Auto, based in Dubuque, announced it'll use the building for its first Quad Cities location.

The company's 23rd store will officially open Wednesday, at the intersection of Brady Street and Kimberly Road in Davenport.

Spokeswoman Sharon Donovan says Theisen's renovated the building, that previously housed Kmart and Hancock Fabrics, into 90,000 square-feet of retail space.

"We've taken over that area and completely, completely re-modeled the store. Updated the parking lot, the interior, the exterior, all of it is totally redone," she says.

She says Theisen's has hired 150 employees for the new Davenport location.

Last year, Theisen's opened two stores in Wisconsin, and Donovan says the family-owned company has grown steadily since it was founded in Dubuque in 1927.

Theisen's will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Brady Street store Wednesday at 11 am.
