A possible increase in the cost of water will be the topic for public meetings - Monday in Bettendorf and Tuesday in Clinton.

Last month, the Iowa American Water Company filed a rate hike request with the state, and the Iowa Utilities Board wants to know what local residents think. The company would like to raise residential rates in the Quad Cities and Clinton by 15 per cent, and for commercial customers by 22 per cent.

Iowa American says since the last rate increase 3 years ago, it's invested million of dollars in upgrading its system and equipment, and cut expenses by 10 per cent.

Earlier this month, an interim increase went into effect - 7 per cent for residential customers and 10 per cent for commercial.

The utilities board has up to ten months to make a final decision.
Monday's public comment meeting begins at 4:30 pm at Scott Community College in Bettendorf, while Tuesday's in Clinton is set for 5:30 pm at Clinton Community College. An additional meeting for residents of Dixon, Iowa will be held on June 14th, at the Legion Hall.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
