New Hotel Planned for Downtown Muscatine

Riverview Hotel Development

Construction will start later this year on a six-story, luxury hotel in downtown Muscatine. That was the announcement tonight at a reception held by Riverview Hotel Development, the company planning the new Merrill Hotel and Convention Center.

The project includes 114 hotel rooms, a parking structure, conference center, a spa, and a pool.
Chief operating officer, Andy MacLellan, says for many years downtown Muscatine has not had a hotel.

The name of the new hotel and conference center comes from former Hon Industries ceo, Stanley Merrill Howe - MacLellan says he and his family have been major benefactors of the city for many years, and are the lead investors in this project.

Groundbreaking will probably be held in September, with completion in about two years (summer 2017).

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
