Rock Island police are warning people not to be fooled by an email scam.
A local business told the police someone contacted them on Thursday, saying they'd won an award.
They were instructed in an unsolicited email message to go to a website called the "Rock Island Award Program," which required money in exchange for the "award."
But the city is not affiliated with the website and does not sponsor an "award program."
The police department says people and businesses should not communicate with those who sent the email, don't click on any links in the message, and don't ever give them money or personal information.
