Arconic New Furnace

Arconic Inc.

Arconic will invest more money in its Davenport Works plant.  The aerospace and industrial company plans to install a horizontal heat treat furnace.  It will create longer and thicker aluminum plate for aircraft wings, skins, and other structural components.

Communication and Public Affairs Manager, John Riches, says the furnace will improve the quality of Arconic's products.

"Heat treatment is really a required step in the production of certain high strength products and it's essential for these products intended for large aerospace and industrial application.  So that's really what's driving the need to do this."

The total cost of the new furnace and installation is 137 million dollars.

Riches hopes the project at Arconic Davenport Works will start by the end of the year, with the furnace online in 2019.

Last week the Iowa Economic Development Board approved a 1.5 million dollar grant to create 30 jobs.

Last spring, the company completed installation of a 150 million dollar stretcher.
