A women's shelter in the Quad Cities has received a significant grant to help with operating costs. Churches United announced Tuesday it received $10,000 from the Community Resources Corporation to support Winnie's Place.

Anne Wachal, Executive Director of Churches United, says the funding is critical.

Winnie's Place is located in the Illinois Quad Cities and serves homeless women with or without children.

Community Resources Corporation is a local, independent group. Wachal says next year, its members may not be able to provide funds to the women's shelter.

Winnie's Place provides counseling, advocacy, and training to its clients. "WINNIE" stands for "Women in Need, Nurtured Into Excellence."

Churches United will celebrate the tenth anniversary of the shelter in December.
