Time Bank Opens in Galesburg

A new type of bank is open in Galesburg. The Galesburg Time Bank matches people in need with people offering services.

Peter Schwartzman, co-founder and one of the coordinators, says the Time Bank has a web site where people offer their skills in exchange for services they need.

Schwartzman says this sounds like bartering but legally it's not, because participants  are not exchanging services directly with each other. They are using the Time Bank as an intermediary.

Like a bank, you make deposits and withdrawals.

To join the Galesburg Time Bank, go to its web site and fill out an application. Once it's reviewed by coordinators, you'll be given access to the time bank.

After a year of research and planning, Schwartzman says they launched it in January and currently have about 15 members. Their goal for this year is to reach at least 100.
