Fundraising for the Two Rivers YMCA

Two Rivers YMCA

The final phase of a capital campaign for the Two Rivers YMCA in Moline begins tonight. The campaign began in December with a goal of 3 million dollars.

Board of directors chair, Jennifer Rowe, says volunteers will be asked to help raise the final 200,000 dollars during just the next ten days.
Some of the money raised will pay for a small addition to the Y on 53rd Street in Moline, but most will pay to renovate the facility, and re-configure the current space.

Rowe says one of their goals is to build a children's room.

Now we have just limited space for after school and days-off programs.

A dinner tonight at the I Wireless Center will officially kick off the 10-day fundraising effort.

The Two Rivers Y now has about 12,000 members and hosts more than 1 million "visits" each year. It was built in 1971, with additions in the 80's, 90's and 2,000's.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
