Seniors Receive Wheelchair Accessible Gardens

Local seniors are receiving a gift that will keep on giving. Tomorrow morning, the Rock Island Rotary Club and other organizations will plant wheelchair accessible gardens at senior housing facilities.
Rotary Vice President, John Phillips, says the club joined Activate Rock Island, Urban Gardens, and Broadway Presbyterian Church last winter to build the gardens. Volunteers used PVC pipe and plastic barrels to construct raised garden-beds, built especially for seniors.
Tomorrow (sat), volunteers will place six gardens at the Convetry Senior Residential Facility in Rock Island, as well as gardens at senior group homes.

Phillips says it's too early to start planting yet, but the residents will soon be provided with the resources they need to plant vegetables.
