Our Vision Realized

"Lynden Lane is our vision realized." That's how the Rock Island Housing Authority describes a new group of homes in west Rock Island. Today the authority held a ribbon cutting for the single-family homes and duplexes built on the former site of Manor Homes.

Housing Authority executive director, Susan Anderson, says Manor Homes was a 60-year old, barracks-style, densely populated project, that became too costly to maintain. And now it's been replaced with what she calls "a true subdivision."
Families have already moved in to the first ten units, 15 more will be ready soon, and the final group of 30 should be finished in January.

Anderson says the Housing Authority first planned the transformation of Manor Homes back in 2003, when it worked out new plans for all of its properties.
The previous residents were re-located last year (2013), and demolition began last February.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
