Quad Cities residents and kids eager to meet Santa lined up along the railroad tracks in downtown Davenport this afternoon. The Canadian Pacific Holiday Train stopped in next to Modern Woodmen Park, as part of its North American tour.
Spokesman Andy Cummings says the train makes 150 stops in one month. Different musicians perform and non-perishable food and cash donations are collected for local food banks.
The train stops in Davenport every other year, and the donations benefit the Hunger Program of Churches United of the Quad Cities.
Churches United member, Rick Martin, has volunteered for the past four years. He says this year's collection is the largest so far.
Martin says the food donations will go to 26 different food pantries in the Quad Cities area. And, the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train gave Churches United a check for eight-thousand-dollars to benefit its Hunger Program.
After a performance by country singer, Kira Isabella, the train took off towards its next stops, Clinton and Bellevuethis afternoon, and Dubuque tonight at 8:30.
